Dr St Jean helped me understand what was going on with my body through testing and changing my diet. It made me feel completely different and opened up my eyes to what food can do for your body.

He really cared and I felt support throughout the whole journey and still do now.”

Functional Medicine General Questions

How to Become A Functional Medicine (FM) Patient?

Simply click the links provided throughout the website directing you to "New Patients Start Here."  Submit payment for your onboarding sessions, complete the intake and Dr. St Jean and his team will begin working on your case immediately.

How much will my FM care cost?

While it's difficult to ascertain the exact cost of your care due to the varied severity and chronicity of clinical presentations, we do ensure the most cost-effective care on the market. This translates into our clinical team avoiding unnecessary treatments, testing or anything else that could impact your financial wellbeing:

New Patient Onboarding: $779
  • New Pt Evaluation (50 min)
  • Review of Findings & Preliminary Treatment (50 min)

Follow-up Visits:
  • Functional Medicine ($389)
  • Health Coaching ($189)

What does FM lab testing cost?

After over a decade of functional medicine practice, Dr St Jean is able to delineate what is needed and what is not in terms of laboratory and diagnostic testing. Most other facilities require patients to spend anywhere from $1,500-$3,000 on testing. At St Jean Wellness, we are much more conservative and prudent with testing. Further, Dr. St Jean does not charge for testing or lab report interpretation and instead provides you with direct access to our lab partners at wholesale cost. In addition, the majority of tests he orders can be billed through your insurance. Please keep in mind however, this can vary greatly depending upon your insurance coverage.

Is FM covered by insurance?

Regrettably, insurance companies impose numerous limitations on healthcare providers, posing significant challenges to deliver effective treatment. As a result we have made the decision to not accept any form of medical insurance and/or Medicare/Medicaid. Although there are out-of-pocket expenses involved, our patients consistently find that the investment is highly valuable.

What is the frequency of FM care?

After the new patient onboarding process is complete you will typically be typically undergo 1x/month follow-ups with Melissa, our health coach.  Functional medicine follow-ups depend on the complexity of your case.  Typically they are scheduled every other month for the duration of your treatment.  These are essential to monitor and continue with the various treatment phases recommended to achieve your health-related goals. Depending on the severity of your case, duration of treatment can range from 3 months to over a year.

When do I feel better with Functional Medicine?

This entirely depends on the individual patient, the complexity of their case, chronicity of their illness and many other factors. Under ideal circumstances, it is possible to witness improvements in your health within a span of 1-2 months. However, in certain instances, achieving substantial progress may require a longer time frame of 8-12 months or more. We typically consider a 5-10% improvement/month a clinical win; however we strive for much more expedited relief.

Can Dr. St Jean be my PCP?

Dr. St Jean specializes in conducting functional wellness consultations with patients worldwide. As we are unable to establish an in-person provider-patient relationship, we do not engage in formal diagnoses of conventional medical conditions or prescribe medications. Further, Dr. St Jean is not a medical doctor and instead is a Doctor of Chiropractic with specialized training in Functional Medicine and Functional Neurology via post-doctoral educational programs. Dr. St Jean’s expertise lies in detecting the complex interplay of physiological variables and their relation to your subjective symptoms. He uses this information, along with lab and intake data to determine the best evidence-based natural solutions to aid in the recovery of your health challenges.

It is therefore essential that you maintain an existing or establish a new doctor-patient relationship with a local medical doctor in conjunction with our team. It is also imperative you maintain any and all care recommended by either your primary care physician and/or specialist physicians. Again, our primary focus revolves around identifying and addressing the underlying cause of health concerns, aiming to restore a healthy balance within the body.

Do I have to do both functional medicine and therapy or can I do just one?

No, you can do one or the other or both. It’s completely up to you.  Our programs always combine both functional medicine and health/lifestyle coaching to ensure your continued success. Psychotherapy is optional and recommended on an individual basis.

Consultation Questions

Is your virtual telehealth platform HIPAA Compliant?

Yes, we utilize a HIPAA compliant platform to guarantee your safety and privacy. We ensure compliance and security by using “Practice Better” technology that offers HIPAA/PIPEDA/PHIPA compliant software with end-to-end 256-bit AES encryption.

How do I log into my Practice Better profile?

Upon scheduling your Initial Case Review, you will receive an invitation to sign up for our EHR platform, “Practice Better.” Once you have activated your account, you can simply login in with your username and password to access all relevant information and communications.

How do I cancel/reschedule my consultation?

Depending on how you are interacting with our scheduling and practice management software “Practice Better,” two options exist for canceling your appointments:

Client Portal Home Page: if the session is displayed under the Upcoming Session panel on your home page, click on the session name. This will take you to the appointment details page. The appointment can then be canceled by clicking the Cancel Session button on the left. Optionally, you can click the 3 dots next to the appointment in the Upcoming Sessions panel and select Cancel from the options provided.

My Bookings Page: if the session is not displayed in the Upcoming Sessions panel, go to your My Resources - Bookings page. Then, click View Details next to the session. This will take you to a page where you can cancel the session. Optionally, click the 3 dots to the right of the Reschedule button and select Cancel from the options provided.

What is the cancellation policy?

New Patient Evaluation: due to the extensive preparation time required to process these consultations, payment is due prior to booking your appointment. Once payment is made, Dr. St Jean begins the process of analyzing your intake paperwork. He only accepts 15 patients every 4 weeks to ensure the highest quality of care is provided. With that said, once you make your $779 payment, it is no longer refundable. Few exceptions exist, some of which include: delayed travel due to weather or mechanical/crew issues associated with airline travel, traumatic accidents and family/personal health emergencies.

Follow Up Consults: if you are unable to keep your follow up appointment, please notify our office a minimum of 72 hours prior to your scheduled appointment time to avoid a late cancellation fee of the full amount of the visit that was canceled.  If our 72-hour cancellation policy is not observed, a canceled appointment outside the cancellation window results in the following:

  • If we are able to fill the spot: 100% refund
  • If we are unable to fill the spot: 50% refund
  • If you no-show without any explanation or communication, no refund is offered. This policy is due to the fact that limited times are available for new patients to be seen and a missed appointment takes away from another individual who needs to see Dr. St Jean and his team.
